Meet Our Life Size
Inflatable Finback Whale - 55 Feet Long!
This is an
exciting addition to our school talks. Just how large are
these animals? It's one thing to tell kids (and adults) the
physical statistics on whales, but now people can see for
themselves and really get a sense of just how big they are.
Click on any of these photos for larger views.
Our thanks to
Colby-Sawyer College for the use of their beautiful - and big!
- field house for this photo shoot. And the kids from a local
preschool really loved being the first group to explore our
yet-to-be-named whale.
Half of the
whale is black and half is frosted to allow light inside. Kids
and adults are welcome to go inside the whale for an even
better appreciation of the size of an adult Finback.
Check out those 7 foot fins!
The last photo is taken inside
the whale. The kids lined up end to end to see how many kids
long the whale was. They used all 14 boys and girls in the
class but still couldn't reach the end of the whale!
Plans for this awesome full
scale whale were created by J. Michael Williamson, Director of
WhaleNet, and some of his grad students. It is inflated in
minutes using a common house fan. Go to the
WhaleNet site for
further info on how you can easily obtain a set of plans. We
made this model for only about $75! |
